Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the X6 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Urus doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The BMW X6 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Urus doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The X6 has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Urus doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the BMW X6 achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Lamborghini Urus has not been tested.

The X6 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Urus doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the X6 and the Urus have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The X6 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Urus’ 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

There are over 8 times as many BMW dealers as there are Lamborghini dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X6’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the X6 first among upper midsize premium SUVs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The Urus isn’t in the top three in its category.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the X6 xDrive40i gets better fuel mileage than the Urus SE running its gasoline engine (22 city/26 hwy vs. 19 city/21 hwy).

The X6 has a gallon more fuel capacity than the Urus (21.9 vs. 20.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the BMW X6 higher (4 to 6 out of 10) than the Lamborghini Urus (2). This means the X6 produces up to 27.7 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Urus every 15,000 miles.

Tires and Wheels

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the X6 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Urus doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Chassis

The BMW X6 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 500 pounds less than the Lamborghini Urus.

The X6 xDrive40i is 6.9 inches shorter than the Urus, making the X6 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the X6 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Urus doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The X6 has 1.1 inches more front shoulder room and 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Urus.

Cargo Capacity

The X6 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Urus with its rear seat up (27.4 vs. 21.8 cubic feet). The X6 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Urus with its rear seat folded (59.6 vs. 56.4 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the X6’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Urus doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Ergonomics

The X6 offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Urus doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the X6 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Urus doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the X6 has standard extendable sun visors. The Urus doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Recommendations

The BMW X6 outsold the Lamborghini Urus by over six to one during 2025.
