The iX’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Optiq doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the iX and Optiq have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The iX has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Optiq’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The iX has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Optiq doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the iX. But it costs extra on the Optiq.

The BMW iX’s optionalSurround View is available with washers for its front and rear cameras, ensuring crystal-clear visibility in any weather condition. Conversely, the Cadillac Optiq only offers a rear camera washer, which may not provide the same level of all-weather performance.

Both the iX and the Optiq have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The iX’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Optiq’s (12 vs. 6 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the iX for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Optiq.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the iX’s reliability 12 points higher than the Optiq.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. With 4 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Cadillac.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 13 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

The iX has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Optiq doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The iX M70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Optiq doesn’t offer launch control.

The iX’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Optiq’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the iX offers optional 23-inch wheels. The Optiq’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

The iX has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The iX’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Optiq doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the iX’s wheelbase is 1.8 inches longer than on the Optiq (118.1 inches vs. 116.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the iX is 1.7 inches wider in the front and 66.8 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Optiq.

The iX xDrive45 handles at .87 G’s, while the Optiq Sport AWD pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The iX M70 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.9 seconds quicker than the Optiq Sport AWD (25.5 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .64 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the iX has a 2.8 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Optiq (8.8 vs. 6 inches), allowing the iX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The iX has 1.9 inches more front headroom, 6.7 inches more front hip room, 4.5 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear headroom, 1.1 inches more rear legroom, 9.1 inches more rear hip room and 2.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Optiq.

The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Optiq with its rear seat up (35.5 vs. 26 cubic feet). The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Optiq with its rear seat folded (77.9 vs. 57 cubic feet).

The iX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Optiq’s (3500 vs. 1500 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Cadillac Optiq is only 1500 pounds. The iX offers up to a 6834 lbs. towing capacity.

While the Optiq V-Series is not recommended to tow, any iX can tow a minimum of 3500 pounds.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the iX has a standard rear wiper. The Optiq doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Laser headlights, optional on the iX, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Optiq’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

The Optiq Premium/V-Series’ cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The iX’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

Consumer Reports® recommends the BMW iX, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Cadillac Optiq isn't recommended.
